- The author reveals or focuses on the “news content” of the story.
- You see elements of what I’ve been calling the “story-form,” its literary dimensions–for instance, effects of voice, point of view, imagery, narrative structure and so on.
- Moments where the “subject’s story”–meaning, the story that the person in the text would prefer to tell–seems to enter into the passage; and
- Any hints about how the journalist researched the story you’re reading.
