Look at this painting, and try to identify three or four elements that make it seem “realistic” to you. It might be that you’d focus on the content, or subject matter; it might be that you’d focus on style or technique. Once you’re done making your own list, click on the painting itself and see how some of these painting techniques might be compared to realistic effects in writing reportage. (My ideas will be in the smaller boxes you’ll see on the screen.)
